The Indiana Pacers will be without acrobatic backup forward Obi Toppin for at least three months once he undergoes foot surgery next week.
The team announced that Toppin had a partial stress fracture of the fifth metatarsal in his right foot and will travel to New York for surgery. Pacers coach Rick Carlisle told reporters that Toppin would be out till February at the earliest.
Toppin averaged 9.4 points and 3.8 rebounds in 19.1 minutes per game off the bench during the 2025 postseason as the Pacers pushed all the way into Game 7 of the NBA Finals.
Due to injuries to several teammates, Toppin played a bigger role during the first week of this NBA season. He rang up 20 points over 40 minutes during the Pacers' opener against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Oct. 23, but he left Sunday's game against the Minnesota Timberwolves with what was reported as leg soreness.
That leg soreness morphed into the need to insert a screw into Toppin's right foot. Toppin's 14.0 points and 6.7 rebounds per game will be on the shelf until at least February.
Toppin joins Tyrese Haliburton (Achilles tendon), T.J. McConnell (hamstring), Bennedict Mathurin (foot), Andrew Nembhard (shoulder), Johnny Furphy (foot) and Kam Jones (back) in street clothes.
