Julio Urias teamed with three relievers on an eight-hitter, Miguel Vargas drove in two runs with two hits in his major league debut and the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers beat the rival San Francisco Giants for the third time in three days, 3-0 on Wednesday night.
In delivering the Dodgers a seventh consecutive victory over the Giants since the All-Star break, Urias (11-6) worked six-plus innings, allowing seven hits. He struck out six and did not allow a walk.
The scoreless outing was his second in his past three starts, and the win his eighth in his past nine appearances.
Up 3-0 entering the seventh, Urias was pulled after serving up consecutive no-out singles to J.D. Davis, Luis Gonzalez and Joey Bart, loading the bases.
Davis was making his Giants debut after being acquired from the New York Mets on Tuesday.
Evan Phillips came on and pitched out of the jam, striking out Dixon Machado before getting a break on Mike Yastrzemski's looper to right field that was caught by Mookie Betts and turned into a double play when Gonzalez strayed too far off second base.
Yency Almonte and Craig Kimbrel each pitched a scoreless inning to complete the shutout, the Dodgers' eighth of the season. The Giants loaded the bases with one out in the ninth, but Kimbrel got Yastrzemski to pop up and then struck out Austin Slater for his 19th save.
Vargas made an immediate impact on a talent-rich Dodgers lineup in the second inning against Giants starter Alex Cobb (3-6) with a long hit to right-center field in his first major league at-bat. The ball bounced over the wall at the 415-foot mark for a ground-rule double, scoring Trayce Thompson, who had singled and stolen second.
Vargas, a 22-year-old Cuban, delivered the Dodgers' second run two innings later with an infield single.
Cobb pitched into the seventh, leaving a 2-0 game with one on and one out. Betts drove in the game's final run two batters later with a sacrifice fly against Dominic Leone.
Cobb yielded three runs on four hits and three walks with eight strikeouts.
Max Muncy joined Vargas with two hits for the Dodgers, who won their fourth straight.
Bart collected a career-high-tying three hits while Brandon Belt had a single and a double for the Giants, who lost for the 11th time in 14 games since the All-Star break.
