Former New England Revolution defender Marshall Leonard has traded in his soccer uniform for one of an attending physician in a New York City-area hospital.
Leonard's newest job -- which will be in a region that has been hit extremely hard by the coronavirus pandemic -- was revealed by his brother on social media.
"So my brother starts as an attending in a NYC area emergency room tomorrow," Franklin Leonard wrote on Twitter on Saturday.
The Revolution couldn't be happier for one of their former players.
"From all of us at the NERevs, we send our heartfelt thanks to former club alum Marshall Leonard for answering the call in caring for the affected in NYC," the team wrote on Twitter.
Marshall Leonard recorded one goal and two assists in 63 career games with New England (2002-07).
He soon followed in the footsteps of his father, Tommy Leonard Jr., and attended medical school before completing his residency in 2019.
As of Sunday afternoon, more than 713,000 people around the world had been diagnosed with the disease, with nearly 33,600 fatalities, according to Johns Hopkins University.
