Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs defender Daniel Cardoso is happy with the faith the club has shown in him after agreeing to extend his contract for another year.
Cardoso has been in fine form for Amakhosi this season and has been an integral part of a defence that has conceded just 16 times in 20 Premiership appearances this season.
Chiefs have had a fantastic season so far and currently sit at the top of the Premiership standings, four points ahead of Mamelodi Sundowns in second. Fans of the club will undoubtedly be delighted with the clubs move towards keeping the current group together, such as extending Cardoso's contract.
"This is a club that I've been with for the last five seasons and I'm happy here, and I'm glad that they've extended my stay," Cardoso said.
"It just shows that they have faith in me, and I want to continue working hard to bring trophies back to Naturena."
At the press conference, Cardoso revealed he nearly left the club for the Major Soccer League after discussions were held between his representatives and Bradley Carnell, currently the assistant coach of the New York Red Bulls.
"[The Interest] was pretty strong. I've worked with Bradley Carnell before and obviously you know he's in America at the moment. He's been speaking to my stand-in agent Stanton Fredericks."
Cardoso would'be been disappointed to miss out on a chance to win silverware after Chiefs were knocked out of the Nedbank Cup by Highlands Park but will remain optimistic about their chances in the Premiership.
