TALUQAN, Afghanistan, June 3 (Xinhua) -- Afghan security forces have rescued a child from kidnappers in Taluqan, capital of the northern Takhar province, and arrested three kidnappers, provincial police spokesman Abdul Mobin Safi said on Saturday.
The child, who was kidnapped in Kabul, capital of Afghanistan, was rescued in Taluqan city on Friday night and the kidnappers demanded 2 million Afghanis in ransom from the victim's family for his release, Safi said.
The security personnel, after identifying the location of the kidnappers, launched special operations and rescued the child, Safi said, adding the security personnel have also arrested the three kidnappers.
Similarly, police in Kabul killed three kidnappers and rescued a man from the kidnappers 10 days ago.
In war-torn and economically impoverished Afghanistan, criminal gangs, including kidnappers, often attempt to target wealthy families by kidnapping their members and demanding huge amounts of cash for their release.
The Afghan caretaker government has vowed to crack down on outlaws and criminal elements as part of its efforts to ensure law and order in the country. (1 U.S. dollar equals 86 Afghanis)
